ERNST GRUBE – THE LEGACY

Volumetric VR experience (documentary), 2022

Ernst Grube – The Legacy, a collaboration between UFA and Fraunhofer HHI, uses cutting-edge volumetric video technology to preserve the stories of Holocaust survivors for future generations. Ernst Grube, a Jewish survivor, shares his harrowing experiences of persecution under National Socialism in a volumetric studio, where 32 cameras captured a lifelike, 3D representation of his testimony.
This film integrates his story into a virtual world, creating an immersive VR experience that brings history to life in an unprecedented way. Targeted especially at younger generations for whom the Holocaust may feel distant, the project bridges the gap between past and present, setting a new milestone in Holocaust documentation and contributing to German and European remembrance culture.
