PERSON VR – VVOW

volumetric capture  R&D, 2017 – 2019

The aim of the research and development project personVR was to create a new 3D reconstruction and modelling method for real people based on a multi-camera recording system. The new system shall be used for film productions, walk-in entertainment and infotainment experiences.

Various testshoots have been made to further develop the technology and test the possibilities. A scene from the well-known poem „The Sorcerer’s Apprentice“ wass adapted and volumetrically recorded. Also musicians from the Konzerthaus Berlin and athletes from football to basketball were recorded in the volumetric studio to explore the limitations – and develop new algorithms.

The R&D project laid the foundation for a marketable recording and production system, which is nowadays an established Volumetric Studio.

VVOW – volumetric video workflow – was a cooperation of the Fraunhofer HHI department „Vision & Imaging Technologies“, Trotzkind GmbH and reallifefilm international GmbH (INVR.SPACE’s partner company).

VVOW was co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (EFRE)
