EVA UMLAUF – HER TESTIMONY

Volumetric VR experience, 2023

This innovative VR experience shares the story of Dr. Eva Umlauf, one of Auschwitz-Birkenau’s youngest survivors. Developed by LMU Munich and Fraunhofer HHI, it uses cutting-edge volumetric video technology to preserve her testimony for future generations.
Captured with Fraunhofer’s „3D Human Body Reconstruction,“ Eva appears as a lifelike 360° volumetric figure. For the first time, post-capture animation enables her to maintain eye contact, enhancing the emotional connection with users.
Through three scenes, Eva recounts her life, supported by an interactive book of archival materials. This immersive project combines history and technology to create a powerful, lasting memorial experience.
